There I said it! The word that scares the hell out of a lot of people.
I have loved nude art for as long as I can remember. I feel that a strength can be found in posing nude. This is the reason why I only work with a very select few people who choose to pose nude. They are as expressive with their body as they are with their face. They believe, as I do, in the artful expression of the human form. That it is a part of who we are and holds no shame. It has the ability to show humanity in all its variety—gender, race, shape, age, etc. In my view, this is a display of their confidence and independance. Of all the people I have worked with, very few are as expressive with their body as they are with their face. They poses a self awareness, rarely found any more in our society.
The prevailing view is that a naked body is equal with pornography. It’s absolutely ludicrous for the nude body to be considered obscene. Nudity and sex have become so (falsely) ingrained in one another that the words are almost interchangeable. Nudity, by itself, is not sexual to me. It is honest. You see, society is afraid of real, tangible nudity because we have been taught to be ashamed of our anatomy for far too long. When we rebel and deny the societal pressure to cover up, it makes people uncomfortable. Being unashamed about our nudity is a rebellion against that prevailing view.
